Desperate Housewives ‘Look Into Their Eyes and You See What They Know’
Air Date: April 19, 2009
Liveblog/recap

Aight, kids. It’s been waaaaay too long since we last did this, and I’m extremely excited for this episode. I’m excited even though I just stopped of at Wendy’s for a Frosty, and they were all out of chocolate, so I had to get a vanilla Frosty. Why do those even exist?? But now I’m here, with Neighbor Peggy and Friend Erin, and we’re ready to see the first episode of “Desperate Housewives” in a month.

9:00: Yes! Edie’s narrating. “What can I say? It was one of those days.” The only people who’ve narrated the show have been dead. Mary Alice, Rex. Is she dee-ee-dee ded?
9:01: Yep. Less than a minute into the show, and my soap-opera-coma theory is already wrong. Edie really is DEAD dead. Wow. That’s….it?
9:02: It suddenly occurred to me that maybe this is what Dana Delany meant when she said “dead doesn’t mean dead.” Edie’s going to take over for Mary Alice? I mean, her character is totally moot at this point, right? Nicollette’s leaving the show for good, though, so maybe not.
9:04: So are we going to see all these happy stories about when Edie was fun and nice with everyone? Don’t get me wrong, I loved Edie, but she wasn’t the girl next door.
9:05: “Funny and likes to gossip? We’re going to get along just fine,” -Susan. Uh-huh. Yup. Until you BURN EACH OTHER’S HOUSES DOWN?
9:06: Thank the high harlotty heavens! Edie just said she was sleeping with a married neighbor. Good thing we’re not having happy-memory time like the 100th episode, with Eli Scruggs.

Season Conclusion of Desperate Housewives

May 19, 2008 by Julie Bonner

Here is the video clip of the shocking (and somewhat disliked by some) season conclusion to Desperate Housewives. There are definitely mixed emotions about the 5 year flash forward. Some thought it was done well and some didn’t like it at all and are guessing and hoping that someone was just dreaming all of that.

I am hoping it was a dream. I didn’t like the fact that Mike wasn’t in the picture at all. I did like seeing Gabby as a mom of twins, but I honestly can’t see her glamed down look flying on the show. The clip with Lynette and Preston stealing the car was funny and believable. As far as Bree being a successful cookbook author…I still have mixed feeling seeing her that way. I was glad that her and Orson were together though.

Any more thoughts on the 5 year flash forward from you?

(On a side note…I was almost done with my season finale recap and my computer crashed. It likes to do that from time to time. I have some of it that was saved, but the rest…well I have to do it ALL over again. Needless to say I was not a happy person last night. The recap will be on its way soon. :D)

Desperate Housewives 4.15 ‘Mother Said’ Recap

(The picture above is from October 3, 2004.)

Another great Desperate Housewives episode! Can you believe that the season finale is next week? It’s over WAY too soon. What are we going to do all summer long? I guess follow the stars around and talk about old episodes. Sounds fun to me. :D Okay, here’s my Desperate Housewives recap for episode 4×15 “Mother Said”.

Gabby, Carlos and Ellie

Gabby finds out that Ellie is a drug dealer. Just when they were really enjoying her and they consider her a friend. She cleans the house, helps take care of Carlos (and is nice to him, lol!) and Gabby and Carlos realized they don’t fight as much with her around. Things were going so well! Until…

Ellie took Carlos out for a walk and Gabby heard the smoke alarm go off in Ellie’s room. She used Ellie’s keys and opened the door. As she was fiddling with the smoke alarm, a piece fell under the bed. She looked under the bed and found several bricks of cocaine and a scale. Uh-oh. Not good.

Gabby told Carlos and he started to call the police. Gabby stopped him and said that she was their friend. Carlos reminded her that he is a convicted felon on parole and that if the police found out they had a drug dealer living there he could get in a lot of trouble.

Before Gabby knew what was going on with Ellie, she met one of her customers and asked to see his tattoo. Obviously Ellie didn’t give him a tattoo, so she told Gabby that he couldn’t show it to her because it was way down south, lol. Gabby’s expression was hilarious. Then she asks “Does it hurt?” and he said he was all right.

Gabby and Carlos were at the police station letting them know what was going on, when in walks the guy that was at their house for his “tattoo”. Come to find out he is an under cover cop trying to find out who Ellie’s handler is. He said she was small time so they needed to get to the source.

On Mother’s Day Gabby was fixing lunch and she told Carlos that she was having a really hard time with this because Ellie was a friend and he told her that she can’t think of him as a friend. She’s a drug dealer. Gabby calls Ellie to lunch and when she comes into the dining room, Ellie surprises her with a bouquet of flowers and tells her that she doesn’t have a good relationship with her mom and just wanted to thank her for being so nice to her. They hugged and Gabby looked so sad.

Edie, Orson and Bree

Episode 4.15 “Mother Said”: [...] tongues are wagging that Edie’s actions during the rest of the season are so reprehensible they could actually lead her to leave town. [...] What does she do that’s so bad? “One of her neighbors is in a bit of a predicament and Edie good-naturedly attemps to help her out,” Sheridan reveals of the May 11 episode. “But in doing that, she gets lured into an alcoholic haze that gives her momentary extraordinarily bad judgment.” In short, “Edie crosses a huge moral boundary that she has never crossed before,” creator Marc Cherry has said. “It’s not that despicable,” counters Sheridan. “The women are all quite evil at the end of that episode. Those nasty wenches! I mean, come on, they’re the ones that are killing people, having affairs!” Edie’s saving grace could be that the other ladies are so busy putting out fires in their own lives that they don’t have time to deal with her. Desperate Housewives 4.12 ‘In Buddy’s Eyes’ Recap

April 21, 2008 by Julie Bonner

22nd Genesis Awards - Press Room
Image details: 22nd Genesis Awards - Press Room served by picapp.com

Desperate Housewives episode 4.12 “In Buddy’s Eyes” had me laughing several times as I watched it last night. As the spoilers said, one of the DH guys did indeed get naked and it was none other than Orson Hodge! The episode was filled with some twist and turns that I did not expect and some moments that were a little bit predictable, but then again, I do read all of the spoilers, lol!

Here’s the 4.12 recap:

Gabby and Carlos:

Oh Gabby, Gabby, Gabby…she was up to her same ‘ol self in this episode and I loved it! Just as I expected, Gabby is having some issues with adjusting to Carlos’ blindness. It seems that everyone else on Wisteria Lane is eager and willing to help Carlos, except Gabby. She sees him as a handicap to her, until the end.

It all starts with Gabby having to shop where the “poor people” do. She runs into Lynette who also shops where the poor people do, and Gabby is walking in very high heels across the parking lot and she is just tired. Gabby then notices all the empty handicapped parking spaces and says to Lynette what a waste those are. Lynette asks if she has one of those blue tags for Carlos and Gabby says she thought those were only for people in wheel chairs. Lynette says she is pretty sure that blind people can get a handicapped sign also. That’s when we see the light bulb go off in Gabby’s head.

Without Carlos knowing, Gabby gets a blue handicapped tag for the car. She is in the parking lot putting her groceries in the car when a man in a wheelchair comes up to her and points out that she isn’t handicapped. He says he had to park all the way in the back. Gabby tells him to stop complaining because she has to walk in high heels all day while he gets to roll everywhere. My favorite line is when he says, “You did NOT just say that!” He tries to call the police on her and she wrestles the phone away from him. Another man in a wheel chair comes up and he then leaves to go get a security guard. As Gabby is wrestling the phone away from the man, she then pushes him down the parking lot and he goes rolling away. Gabby then says, “I am definitely going to hell.”

Gabby realizes that in order to get her errands done quick and be able to park in that supremo spot, she needs to come up with a different plan. She decided to coax Carlos to come with her making him think he’s getting out for a day of fun when really, she leaves him in the car everywhere while she runs her errands. That way, there is a handicapped person in the car and she can park in her new favorite spot.

She left Carlos for too long while she got her nails done and he had some kid take him to get a hamburger. When Gabby comes out, Carlos is gone and she starts freaking out. She finds Carlos, he smells nail polish and then realizes that she’s been using him to park in the handicapped spot.

Gabby then tells him how much his blindness has changed her life too, for example, always having to be worried if she left the toothpaste in the right spot so that Carlos can find it, and she says she had no idea that this is what it was going to be like.

Later, they are at home getting ready for the Founders Ball and Carlos apologizes for how tough things are. Gabby tells him that because it’s him, it is all worth it. She loves him even through his blindness and is willing to do what it takes to make this work. They have a very loving moment between the two of them and at the time, it seems that things will work out for Carlos and Gabby.

Desperate Housewives 4.11 “Sunday” Recap

April 14, 2008 by Julie Bonner

Okay, I just got through watching the new Desperate Housewives episode 4.11 entitled “Sunday”. I thought it was a great episode and it was everything I expected and a little more! The theme was basically faith, believing in something that you can not see. Here’s my recap:

Katharine, Dylan and Adam:

Katharine Mayfair has a lot going on in this episode. Let’s just say she’s been rather busy. First, the ladies tried to come over and cheer her up with some muffins and jam and she wouldn’t have anything to do with it. She thought all they wanted were the juicy details of why Adam left her (which of course they wanted the details). Susan told her she wanted to bring her flowers and they shot down her idea. As the ladies were leaving, Bree told Katharine that she can’t keep these feeling bottled up inside of her and also that she was so surprised that Adam was the one who left. Katharine basically told her to mind her own business and that she didn’t want to talk about it.

After that happened, we see Katharine walking through the woods. She sits down on a rock and starts crying. Mary Alice Young starts talking and saying that Katharine has regrets of things she has done in the past. We then see what looks like a grave. It’s stones in the ground in the shape of a cross.

Katharine later heads over to Susan’s house, with her daughter Dylan, to apologize for being so rude when everyone came over to cheer her up. That’s when they run into Susan’s cousin, Tim, who’s in town. Tim says “Mrs. Davis” and she says she hasn’t been called that in years. Come to find out, Katharine and Tim met when he was 16 and he stayed at Susan’s house for a week. It seemed that Tim was eying Dylan and Susan didn’t want him to have anything to do with her. She wasn’t even 18 yet.

Later, Adam calls Katharine and she goes to his hotel room. Dylan had called him and left a message about a note she found in the fireplace. She had pieced the note together and it said something about her dad being murdered. Dylan knew, or so she thought she knew, that Adam was the only person that would tell her the truth. Katharine told Adam what to say and he said he would cover for her and give her an alibi, but this was the last time. She said she missed him and wanted to know if he missed her too. He had no response.

Susan called Tim from Mike’s rehab and she heard giggling in the background. She asked if someone was over and of course he denied it and said he was taking a nap, with the TV on. Susan immediately headed over to the house, walked into a room and said, “get off that poor girl right now!” thinking that Tim and Dylan were the ones in bed together. Come to find out….it was Katharine. They had previously met and had a one-time fling when he was 16. Yes, 16!! He said he lost his virginity to her. Susan was a little disgusted and walked out.

At the end of the show, Dylan is in Adam’s hotel room begging him to tell her the truth about her mom and dad. She wants to know that she’s not crazy and that these memories she keeps having are real. Adam looks her straight in the face and says, “Your mother did not kill your father.” Dylan cries, they hug and Adam has that look on his face like you do when you just told a huge lie. Dylan leaves the hotel room and hugs the only father-like figure that she knows, Adam. She trust him like her own father and she has to have faith in him that he told her the truth.

Bree and Lynette:

Bree and Lynette talked and learned quite a bit about faith in this episode. I think their relationship grew quite a bit. It all starts when Lynette is out on the proch on a Sunday morning. Everyone else is leaving for church. That’s what people on Wisteria Lane do like clock work every Sunday, but not the Scavos. Then it hits Lynette. She wants to go to church. She has questions that she needs answered. Lynette walks into the house and tells Tom. He’s really into his game, but after hearing one of their kids say, “I know who Jesus is. He helps out Santa Claus”. Tom says,”Come on kids, we’re going to church.”

Lynette walks up to Bree and Orson who are loading up the baby in the car to head to church and Lynette asks if they can go to their church. Bree is quite excited and tells Lynette to follow them. Bree also tells Lynette not to go Catholic. She says with all the sitting, standing and kneeling she doesn’t go to church for a workout but for worship. As Lynette is walking away, she asks Bree, “What am I now?” and Bree says “Presbyterian”.

Lynette and her family visit church and Lynette raises her hand right after the Pastor is done with his lesson! She has questions about his sermon and she wants them answered right now. The look on Bree’s face is priceless and she is obviously horrified. She tries to get Lynette to sit down by telling her “We don’t do that here”.

Later, Bree tells Lynette in a Bree sort of way, that maybe they should go to a different church. Like the one by the airport. Lynette was all excited about her new Bible and she said she had lots of questions for Bree pastor. Bree looked a little frightened. Bree doesn’t want Lynette ruining her chances of being the head of the Women’s club there at church. Lynette gets the hint and the next Sunday they head to the Catholic church. Tom was raised Catholic.

When Bree and Orson head into church, their pastor asks where Lynette is and that he is looking forward to her coming. Bree is shocked and surprised. Her pastor says that Lynette was refreshing and that he liked her outspokenness. So, Bree heads across the street to the Catholic church and tries to get Lynette to come back. Lynette said she just put 10 dollars int he collection plate and she wants to get her money’s worth! She also knew that Bree was embarrassed by what she had done. They then go outside and Bree tries to pretty it all up about why she wants Lynette back at her church. Then the truth comes out that Bree is up for the head of this club and that her pastor actually like having Lynette there.

Lynette is disappointed in Bree and said that she thought she was the one friend that had a true strong faith. Bree says she does and Lynette asks why. Bree says “Just because” and Lynette tells her that’s not good enough for her. She has been through a lot and she wants real answers.

Later, Bree visits Lynette and tells her she is out of the running for head of the club at church. They then have a heart to heart talk and Bree apologizes. It ends with them sitting on Lynette’s porch having a Bible study.

Tim:

Tim is an interesting character and he has added quite a bit to the show. Tim was telling Susan about his little fling with Katharine and how he tried to go over to her house before he left Susan’s when he was 16. He said he went up to the door to ring the doorbell and heard screaming. He peeked in the window and saw Katharine and some man fighting. Katharine then picked up a candlestick and whacked him over the head with it. The man fell to the floor and Tim was horrified by the look on Katharine’s face as she looked over the body. Susan asked Tim who he thought it was and he said he thought it might have been her ex-husband, which is Dylan’s dad!!

Gabby, Carlos and Edie:

Carlos is blind, Gabby wants to get married again and Edie is still trying to come in between Gabby and Carlos. She visits Carlos in the hospital to give him back the diamond bracelet her gave her. She says she knows he could use the money. He then informs her that they aren’t real diamonds. Edie is not too happy and tells Carlos that she spit in his jello. Yuck.

Edie then visits with a nurse who is eating what looks like a pb and j sandwich because she is on a tight budget. Edie tries to get some information about Carlos from her and she says she can’t say. Edie then offers to take her to lunch. After her little lunch date she visits Gabby at her home.

You see, Carlos and Gabby got married at the hospital. Before they got married, Carlos wanted to make sure Gabby was in this for better or for worse because his condition was worse than they first thought. Gabby is shocked, but he reassures her that he will be blind for 3 months, four tops! They go ahead and get married and Gabby is in this for the long haul.

Edie comes to visit Gabby and congratulated her on her win. Gabby says it’s not a contest, but if it was she guessed she did win. Edie then informs Gabby about Carlos’ blindness being permanent. Gabby doesn’t believe her because Carlos told her he would get his eyesight back soon. Apparently Carlos has lied to her.

Carlos comes home from the hospital and Gabby is none to happy. We see her in the kitchen fixing “stew” which is actually watered down dog food. Disgusting! She is luring Carlos around the kitchen for a little hanky panky, or so he thinks and Gabby keeps putting obstacles in his way. He runs into the stove, trips over a chair that she pushed in front of him and then bangs his head on the wall. Ouch! Carlos asks what’s going on and Gabby informs him that she knows about the possibility of him never getting his eyesight back. She is mad at him for lying and for also thinking that she is so shallow. he says that he is poor and blind, two things that don’t seem to suit Gabby’s tastes. She says thanks for believing in me and do you really think I am that shallow?

She assures Carlos that she loves him and that she is in this marriage for better or for worse. You can see that there is definitely true love there, but it’ll be interesting to see how this marriage works.

Susan and Mike:

We only see Mike in rehab and Julie and Susan visiting him. He says that when they found out he was a plumber, they gave him the job of scrubbing the toilets. Fun. Susan is very pregnant and looking adorable! Her cousin Tim came for a visit to help her with her taxes and well, we know what else he did on Wisteria Lane.

Recap Questions:

  • What do you think about Katharine’s secret?
  • Do you think that Dylan will find out the truth of her dad’s death in Season 4?
  • Will Adam and Katharine get back together?
  • Will Adam finally break and tell Dylan the truth?
  • How long can Katharine keep her secret a secret?
  • Will Tim and Katharine continue their relationship?
  • Will Lynette continue to go to church and have her questions answered?
  • Will Gabby and Carlos be able to work through his blindness and live as a happily married couple?
  • Is Edie done coming in between the Gabby and Carlos and what does she have up her sleeve next?

I thoroughly  enjoyed this episode and absolutely can not wait until episode 4.12 “In Buddy’s Eyes”.

Desperate Housewives Spoilers for 4.11 & 4.12

March 28, 2008 by Julie Bonner

New spoilers came out yesterday for Desperate Housewives Episodes 4.11 & 4.12. Here they are:

4.11: “Guest starring Nathan Fillion as Adam Mayfair, Kathryn Joosten as Karen McCluskey, Chris Carmack as Tim, Dakin Matthews as Reverend Sikes, Jeff Doucette as Father Crowley, Tom Titone as Dr. Dunlap, Mary Devault as Nurse Wilkins, Patricia Place as nun and Gary Cole as Wayne. Source: ABC

4.12: “Katherine Mayfair stands at a podium before a grand, twinkling ballroom, resplendent in formfitting purple satin - though her updo is uncharacteristically disheveled. She’s going on about the Founders Day award - something relating to community service and whatnot - but Bree Hodge is having none of it. “From the moment I started working with that obnoxious backstabber,” Bree fumes at her banquet table, “she’s done nothing but pull the spotlight off of me and onto her.” Just a moment later, though, the spotlight is back on Bree - literally - as Katherine announces that Wisteria Lane’s resident perfectionist is, in fact, the recipient of this year’s award. Bree floats up to the podium, all flowy teal dress and perfect red curls. As Katherine leans in to offer a congratulary embrace, she whispers to Bree, “I know you tried to poison me, you bitch.” “Nice hair,” Bree replies under her breath. Then, turning on her trademark smile, she faces her adoring audience. [...] But when the show returns, [Bree and Katherine] will have a fast falling-out over planning that Founders Day banquet, capped off with Katherine’s not-so-accidental (but hardly fatal) poisoning. They will, however, reconcile once again and launch a catering business together. [... Gaby] will find there are certain perks [to Carlos' blindness], like the handicapped-parking placard that allows her a prime spot at the mall, leading to a less-than-politically-correct altercation with some angry men in wheelchairs.
