Could ‘Desperate Housewives’ get some ‘Lost’ leftovers?

June 8, 2009 by Amy Bartner

There’s been a lot of buzz around this ABC promo showing former “Lost” cast member Dominic Monaghan foosballing it up with Courtney Cox, Patrick Dempsey and Ed O’Neill:

The rumors began, naturally, with Charlie coming back to “Lost.” Yet Michael Ausiello from EW.com reported that there’s a reason ABC is using Dominic in the bit, and it’s not because he’s coming back to the island.

“The real reason Monaghan is featured in that cheeky spot is because he’s actually joining the cast of another hour-long ABC drama series as a full-time series regular,” Michael wrote.

I, of course, (and should) have a one-track mind and immediately think “OMG, CHARLIE IS COMING TO DH!”

What do you guys think? Michael was sworn to secrecy by ABC, but when I hear “hour-long ABC drama,” I just can’t imagine any other option. “Brothers and Sisters”? “Castle”? “Dirty Sexy Money”? “Private Practice”?

I don’t know, I feel like I could see a pretty adorable romance between Dominic and Julie Mayer. (That is, if we ever get to see her again.)

Also, should I mention that I cried for two weeks straight when Charlie was killed off “Lost” and would be the happiest little blogger in the world if he came to “Desperate Housewives”? Color me biased, but….

The ‘wives come out for the 20th Annual GLAAD Media Awards

April 20, 2009 by Amy Bartner

A few of the ladies were at the 20th Annual GLAAD Media Awards on Friday, where “Desperate Housewives” picked up an award for outstanding comedy series.

Yay for the gay-friendly ‘wives!

We haven’t seen Brenda Strong and Andrea Bowen in sooooooo long. This made me realize how much I really, really missed Julie. Ugh, she look so good! I don’t even think I love the dress that much (and I certainly don’t love the shoes), but she looks good in both!

Winners and losers from ‘Home is the Place’

January 5, 2009 by Amy Bartner

Read last episode’s winners and losers

Desperate Housewives are done with their little winter hiatus, which means it’s time for our weekly game of winners and losers! Please remember these are up to you, too, so if you see someone you think should be a winner/loser in Sundays episode, e-mail or comment it to me!

Shall we begin?

WINNERS

1. Gaby: Oh man, I wish I had made an entire category about Gaby’s laugh so I could grade it in each episode. Not that it would matter, though, because the evil cackle that girl had going when Bob walked into Susan’s house would win every time. Can’t wait to get this on DVD and rewatch it — over and over again. But in other Gaby-winning news, she swindled her husband into taking a job he didn’t want so she can buy pretty gold shoes (and MAN were those pretty…). I’m not sure how she managed to make him feel bad for needing her care while he was BLIND, but she did. Yes, getting what you want isn’t necessarily a good thing…unless it’s within the confines of this show!

2. Bree Hodge: I thought she’d be a loser at first. The future in-law/trashy-pants Melina seemed to be winning with her version of red hair, with all this “I called it first” business. We knew that couldn’t last long. We knew Bree would be back, and again, any woman who calls someone a troglodyte is a winner. Forever.

3. Edie Britch: Finally, finally, FINALLY we get to see more dimension to her character. Instead of being the woman who’s just the neighborhood Edie Britch Williams, she’s become a woman married to a crazypants — who grows enough of a backbone to send Dave out. I think it’s time she was on the opening credits of the show, which, I might add, haven’t been updated pictorially since ‘nam/the beginning of the show.

LOSERS

1. Dave Williams: For entertainment purposes, Dave isn’t a loser. In fact, there’s nothing more that I love than watching a man go crazy. I’ll be dreaming about the scene with him sitting at the table, all whispering like a crazeee to his wife and child. But, let’s be real: in the grand scheme of the show, it’s not awesome to be crazy. It (probably) lost him his wife, and we all know he’s about an episode away from snapping and seeking his revenge on Mike… speaking of, will you miss Mike if he’s killed off the show?

2. Tie: Porter Scavo, AKA Baby Matt Damon 1, and Susan Mayer: Porter gets this award because he was too stupid to find a better place to hide than Grandma’s nursing home room. The Desperate HouseKid obviously hasn’t run away long-term before, and should’ve taken some tips from Andrew on how to survive on the street. On the bright side, we’ll get her back in Lynette’s life. Susan gets this because she told Lee she’s not happy without a man. What kind of message are you sending to your daughter AND baby son, Susan? Come ON!

3. Carlos Solis: Carlos loses for the obvious reasons. The man spent five years blind, then miraculously regains his sight, and then has to feel guilty for needing help during that time AND for wanting to help the blind…and the kicker? He’s convinced by his greedy wife to take a job he’s got no interest in. I really, really hope we see this in future episodes and it’s not just passed off as “oh, Carlos has a job now, things are back to the way they were in Season 1….”

Whattayoo think? Any other people should be on this list?

Andrea Bowen Will Be Back!

October 1, 2008 by Julie Bonner

andrea-bowen-01_NC

Andrea Bowen was one of my favorite characters in Desperate Housewives. She played the part of Julie Mayer, Susan’s daughter, so well and their relationship fascinated me. It definitely was not your typical mother/daughter type of set up. They took turns taking care of each other, with Julie doing the most “taking care of”.

TV Guide has found out that Andrea Bowen’s character will indeed be back. I have no idea if it’s just for one episode or many, but I will take what they’ll give us.

Here’s what they had to say about Julie:

I loved the relationship between Susan and her daughter on Desperate Housewives. Any chance Julie will come back to visit? — Becky
Mickey: Yes, Julie (still played by Andrea Bowen) will be back, and wait until you meet her boyfriend. I mean, her professor. I mean, her boyfriend and her professor.

Julie dating a professor. Nice!

As soon as I find out what episode this is exactly, I will let you know.

Teri Hatcher Not Happy About TV Daughter Not Apart of Regular Cast

May 23, 2008 by Julie Bonner

andrea-bowen-01_nc.jpg

Supposedly Teri Hatcher was absolutely devastated when she found out that her TV daughter Julie, played by Andrea Bowen, would not be apart of the regular cast next season. When we saw the five year flash forward at the end, there was no Julie in sight, but only some impostor, I mean other man, kissing Susan. We saw no Julie and no Maynard. Hmmmmm….

Hatcher said that she thinks leaving Julie out of next season’s shows is a big mistake. She told USA Today, “She (Bowen) is somebody who I have done the majority of my work with for four years. I’ve watched her grow up from 13 to 18, get a driver’s license. I can’t begin to tell you the depths of how impossibly hard it is for me to think about her not being there.

This is a totally producer/network decision that I have nothing to do with, and I guess I can go out on a limb and say I don’t support.

Well, she’s not the only one that isn’t happy about that decision. I LOVE Andrea Bowen and her character Julie. I think there is still more that can be done with her character. I mean, what about that mystery guy Susan was kissing? What does Julie think of that? And she has to be apart of the story when ever we find out where the heck Mike is anyway.

I hope that the producers change their minds and see that Julie is such a part of the show and that she will be greatly missed in Season 5.

Desperate Housewives 4.15 ‘Mother Said’ Recap

May 11, 2008 by Julie Bonner

(The picture above is from October 3, 2004.)

Another great Desperate Housewives episode! Can you believe that the season finale is next week? It’s over WAY too soon. What are we going to do all summer long? I guess follow the stars around and talk about old episodes. Sounds fun to me. :D Okay, here’s my Desperate Housewives recap for episode 4×15 “Mother Said”.

Gabby, Carlos and Ellie

Gabby finds out that Ellie is a drug dealer. Just when they were really enjoying her and they consider her a friend. She cleans the house, helps take care of Carlos (and is nice to him, lol!) and Gabby and Carlos realized they don’t fight as much with her around. Things were going so well! Until…

Ellie took Carlos out for a walk and Gabby heard the smoke alarm go off in Ellie’s room. She used Ellie’s keys and opened the door. As she was fiddling with the smoke alarm, a piece fell under the bed. She looked under the bed and found several bricks of cocaine and a scale. Uh-oh. Not good.

Gabby told Carlos and he started to call the police. Gabby stopped him and said that she was their friend. Carlos reminded her that he is a convicted felon on parole and that if the police found out they had a drug dealer living there he could get in a lot of trouble.

Before Gabby knew what was going on with Ellie, she met one of her customers and asked to see his tattoo. Obviously Ellie didn’t give him a tattoo, so she told Gabby that he couldn’t show it to her because it was way down south, lol. Gabby’s expression was hilarious. Then she asks “Does it hurt?” and he said he was all right.

Gabby and Carlos were at the police station letting them know what was going on, when in walks the guy that was at their house for his “tattoo”. Come to find out he is an under cover cop trying to find out who Ellie’s handler is. He said she was small time so they needed to get to the source.

On Mother’s Day Gabby was fixing lunch and she told Carlos that she was having a really hard time with this because Ellie was a friend and he told her that she can’t think of him as a friend. She’s a drug dealer. Gabby calls Ellie to lunch and when she comes into the dining room, Ellie surprises her with a bouquet of flowers and tells her that she doesn’t have a good relationship with her mom and just wanted to thank her for being so nice to her. They hugged and Gabby looked so sad.

More 4×15 ‘Mother Said’ Sneak Peeks!

May 9, 2008 by Julie Bonner

Wow, we’re going to get to see the whole show before it even airs! Here are two more fairly long sneak peeks of Sunday’s episode 4×15 “Mother Said”. I love this one with Mike’s mother. I hadn’t seen the part yet where she gives her a big ‘ol hug. Hilarious! Susan looks a tad bit uncomfortable don’t you think?

This next one is all about Gabby being Gabby. I love the line “You do know I’m gay right?” Hehehe. I can’t wait to see what in the world is up with Gabby and Carlos’ new roommate. What kind of business IS she running? Obviously Gabby thinks she’s a prostitute. What do you think?

Desperate Housewives 4.12 ‘In Buddy’s Eyes’ Recap

22nd Genesis Awards - Press Room

Desperate Housewives episode 4.12 “In Buddy’s Eyes” had me laughing several times as I watched it last night. As the spoilers said, one of the DH guys did indeed get naked and it was none other than Orson Hodge! The episode was filled with some twist and turns that I did not expect and some moments that were a little bit predictable, but then again, I do read all of the spoilers, lol!

Here’s the 4.12 recap:

Gabby and Carlos:

Oh Gabby, Gabby, Gabby…she was up to her same ‘ol self in this episode and I loved it! Just as I expected, Gabby is having some issues with adjusting to Carlos’ blindness. It seems that everyone else on Wisteria Lane is eager and willing to help Carlos, except Gabby. She sees him as a handicap to her, until the end.

It all starts with Gabby having to shop where the “poor people” do. She runs into Lynette who also shops where the poor people do, and Gabby is walking in very high heels across the parking lot and she is just tired. Gabby then notices all the empty handicapped parking spaces and says to Lynette what a waste those are. Lynette asks if she has one of those blue tags for Carlos and Gabby says she thought those were only for people in wheel chairs. Lynette says she is pretty sure that blind people can get a handicapped sign also. That’s when we see the light bulb go off in Gabby’s head.

Without Carlos knowing, Gabby gets a blue handicapped tag for the car. She is in the parking lot putting her groceries in the car when a man in a wheelchair comes up to her and points out that she isn’t handicapped. He says he had to park all the way in the back. Gabby tells him to stop complaining because she has to walk in high heels all day while he gets to roll everywhere. My favorite line is when he says, “You did NOT just say that!” He tries to call the police on her and she wrestles the phone away from him. Another man in a wheel chair comes up and he then leaves to go get a security guard. As Gabby is wrestling the phone away from the man, she then pushes him down the parking lot and he goes rolling away. Gabby then says, “I am definitely going to hell.”

Gabby realizes that in order to get her errands done quick and be able to park in that supremo spot, she needs to come up with a different plan. She decided to coax Carlos to come with her making him think he’s getting out for a day of fun when really, she leaves him in the car everywhere while she runs her errands. That way, there is a handicapped person in the car and she can park in her new favorite spot.

She left Carlos for too long while she got her nails done and he had some kid take him to get a hamburger. When Gabby comes out, Carlos is gone and she starts freaking out. She finds Carlos, he smells nail polish and then realizes that she’s been using him to park in the handicapped spot.

Gabby then tells him how much his blindness has changed her life too, for example, always having to be worried if she left the toothpaste in the right spot so that Carlos can find it, and she says she had no idea that this is what it was going to be like.

Later, they are at home getting ready for the Founders Ball and Carlos apologizes for how tough things are. Gabby tells him that because it’s him, it is all worth it. She loves him even through his blindness and is willing to do what it takes to make this work. They have a very loving moment between the two of them and at the time, it seems that things will work out for Carlos and Gabby.

The rest of the recap is below the cut.

Desperate Housewives Season 4 - The Story

March 11, 2008 by Julie Bonner

This video just gave me the chills. Here are clips from Desperate Housewives season 4 episodes 1 to 10 telling the story. I think they highlighted some of the best scenes and gave a good idea of what went on. I can not wait for the next episode! This video got me even more excited than I already am.
