Could there be a ‘Desperate Housewives’ spinoff?

April 25, 2009 by Amy Bartner

E!’s Ted Casablanca is reporting that there’s been some buzz about a ‘wives spinoff — and Kathryn Joosten (Mrs. McCluskey) is rumored to be one of the people studio execs are considering for the new show. She’d be starring with Lily Tomlin, and presumably they’d start their own the old-lady P.I. biz?

Although I love watching these two on the show, I can’t really seen them hacking it for their own series. The No. 1 reason? (Don’t get mad, sista’s just statin’ facks): They’re not hot. Entertaining, yes. But spinoffs seem to be all the rage these days. Would you watch a DH spinoff? Who would you pick for it?

NICOLLETTE UPDATE (and extreme spoiler!): She’ll be killed off the show

February 12, 2009 by Amy Bartner

E! Online is reporting that Edie’ll be killed off the show “in an accident involving a car and an electrical wire.”

Ugh. Sounds horrible. Kathryn Joosten (Mrs. McCluskey) told E! the details last night. Apparently, Nicollette told the cast she was leaving at their regular 2 p.m. table read yesterday.

Here’s what Joosten said:

“She said, ‘Bye, it was really nice working with everybody. It’s been terrific and a real honor. Then we all said, ‘Bye,’ and she said, ‘I have a scene to go do, so let me go study that.’ And that was that. Totally professional.”

I still want to know if this was by her own volition, by force of the natural plotline (don’t believe that one…) or because someone wasn’t happy with her?

Regardless, it looks like Dave won’t directly cause her death, but I have a funny feeling it has something to do with him.

The REAL question is this: Will the show be the same without Nic?

TV Guide Interview with Kathryn Joosten

August 14, 2008 by Julie Bonner

TV Guide sat down with Kathryn Joosten, who plays Karen McCluskey on Desperate Housewives. She is the nosey neighbor who is always spying on the Desperate Housewives of Wisteria Lane. I wonder if every neighborhood has a Karen McCluskey?

No Emmy Nominations for Main Desperate Housewives Stars

July 17, 2008 by Julie Bonner

I am sad to say that there are no Emmy Nominations for Desperate Housewives the show or the main stars of the show. A lot of people really aren’t surprised because they are saying DH is not the IT show that is used to be. I was personally hoping that this was going to be either Eva Longoria, Marcia Cross or Dana Delaney’s year, but I guess not.

Do you think season 5 of Desperate Housewives will bring this show back to the popularity it was, or has it hit its peak already?

On a positive note, two Desperate Housewives guest stars made the Emmy cut. Polly Bergen was nominated for “Distant Past” and Kathryn Joosten for  “Welcome to Kanagawa”.

A big congratulations to these two ladies!!

Are any of you surprised about the outcome of the nominations?

MySA.com sat down with Kathryn Joosten, who plays Karen McCluskey on Desperate Housewives, on April 18th at the Emily Morgan Hotel. She was in San Antonio as a special guest of the San Antonio AIDS Foundation. Joosten dished out some spoilers and DH news:

  • She confirms that the show will fast forward five years for the season finale and keeping the characters there throughout the next season.
  • She also said that aging the adults won’t be a problem, however new kid stars will be necessary. They will add a more grown-up versions of Bree’s baby, Susan’s expected child and much of the young brood of Felicity Huffman character, Lynette.
  • She confirms that the Scavo boys have already received their walking papers.
  • Her character Ms. McCluskey will return. As far as how to age her, she suggested that she become hard of hearing and March Cherry went for that idea.
  • As far as what’s happening with her character, she said not much, except that we will find out what happened to the cat of her no deceased friend Ida.
  • Joosten said that working with everyone on the show is a delight.
