Desperate Housewives Episode 402 "Smiles of a Summer Night" Recap:

There have been a string of robberies in Fairview, but not really.  It was just the result of Carlos and Gaby’s affair.

Carlos and Gaby are fooling around and talking about wanting to be together.  Gaby doesn’t understand why he won’t leave Edie.  Then Edie shows up at Gaby’s looking for Carlos.  She distracts Edie while Carlos run to Edie’s, breaking property and making the mess people think was a crime.

When Carlos finally gets to her house the door is locked so he breaks the window and tells Edie someone broke in.

Gaby, Susan and Bree are standing around talking about Dylan and what Julie said about her not being the same girl when Katherine shows up.  She suggests that they all make her lunch to cheer her up.  Bree takes the lead and tells everyone what to bring.  Katherine fights her choice and says she’d rather bring dessert than a salad.  They go back and forth pissing Bree off until Susan ends it by saying she’ll lend her a salad bowl.

Lynette and Tom are in the hospital..Tom keeps getting emotional so Lynette kicks him out of chemo.

Edie surprises Carlos with a car she bought herself with his money for her birthday.  He says he doesn’t have the money for it…she mentions the offshore bank account…she now knows that he’s got some fishy stuff she’s totally going to blackmail him.

Susan is at Katherine’s and has a flashback to the night she left town.  In the flashback, Susan and Mary Alice show up at her door and find that she’s packing up hurriedly to move her family to Chicago for a "new job".  And there’s no time for Julie to say goodbye to Dylan.  They hear glass shattering in the background and Katherine pretends it’s just moving issues.  Back to the present, Katherine opens the door and Susan asks how the job was in Chicago.  At first she doesn’t seem to know what she’s talking about, but then says, oh yeah, it was fine.  Then she makes an excuse to go.

Susan and Mike are eating breakfast.  Susan’s using her pregnancy to eat a lot of syrup. Julie comes down to ask to go to a party.  Mike doesn’t think she should go and puts Susan in the middle.  She sides with Mike much to Julie’s chagrin.

Mrs. McCluskey tells Dylan that her dad was around when she was a kid.

At Lynette’s the ladies are eating what they thought was Bree’s pie.  They all say it’s the best pie ever.  Bree tries it and knows it’s not hers.  Katherine confesses it’s hers.  Bree is fuming.  To change the subject They ask Lynette about Chemo.  She tells them Tom’s annoying her and she needs a new chemo buddy.  all the ladies offer including Katherine except Gaby who changes the subject

Bree trying to replicate Katherine’s pie.  Bree tells Orson about the pie.  He says it’s impossible that it was better.  He says don’t be so hard on yourself this one’s terrific.  It turns out that’s the pie Katherine made!.  He tells her to just ask for the recipe…

Lynette confronts Gaby about the chemo buddy thing.  Gaby says everyone else had it covered.  Lynette says she’s the one she wanted most because she’s fun.  Gaby says she doesn’t like hospitals.  Lynette says it’s a test of their friendship and Gaby caves.

Back at the Mayer house, Susan takes Julie aside and tells her that she can go to the party, and apologizes for siding with Mike… She just wants him to feel like part of the family and she likes that he is concerned about her daughter.  Mike overhears them talking, and they both pretend that Susan was just telling Julie again that she cannot go.

Bree goes over to Katherine’s house with her mince meat pie recipe hoping that then Katherine will give her the tasty pie recipe.  When Katherine doesn’t offer, Bree suggests it and Katherine says she doesn’t share it.  Bree says that she gave Katherine her Mince Meat Pie recipe, and Katherine says that it’s from Betty Crocker.  Bree doesn’t understand why Katherine is so determined to get off on the wrong foot, Katherine counters with asking why Bree is so determined to maintain her tradition.  Then she refuses to give Bree the pie recipe again and gives her a rude send-off.

Susan and Mike are having a date night.  Susan surprises him with sexy lingerie and notices that her boobs have grown because she’s pregnant.  He jokes that one is big than the other.  He then thanks her for backing him up about the party and says that he did the right thing.  Then he says that the party was out of control and he’s sure the cops will shut it down… Then Susan says she needs to run out to get whipped cream… obviously she’s going to get Julie.

Carlos and Edie are celebrating her birthday and she proposes to him, giving him a card that says, "Yes."  She’s basically blackmailing him saying that if she’s his wife, she won’t turn him in to the IRS.  So he agrees.  She’s so evil.

At the party, Julie and Dylan are talking and Dylan is upset about not knowing about her Dad.  Susan shows up and the birthday boy thinks that she’s a stripper.  The little boys think she has implants, she says that she’s pregnant.  She finds Julie and thinks she’s drinking.  It turns out it’s just orange soda.  Susan still makes Julie and Dylan leave anyway.  Julie asks what she’s wearing because it’s embarrassing, and Susan says that the birthday boy liked it.

They get back from the party and Julie tells Dylan to call her tomorrow.  Julie’s confused because her mom keeps changing her mind.  Susan says Julie’s putting her in the middle.  Julie says she doesn’t expect her to side with her every time.  Just no more lying.  She agrees starting tomorrow.  They come into the house and say she got her from the movies.  Mike says that’s funny because her friend called asking if she got home safely from the party since she left with a stripper.  Julie says the jig is up but Susan still wants to lie.  Julie confesses to the whole thing and Susan is left looking stupid.  Mike is upset about her lying. Susan asks if this is going to be one of those situations where he leaves and she runs through the street after him crying.  He says he just wants her to be honest with him and that he’s ok with her parenting Julie as long as they parent the new baby together.  She agrees and asks if she’s off the hook, he says as long as she works her shoulders.

Gaby is at the hospital with Lynette.  She keeps leaving because she’s uncomfortable.  She finally admits to Lynette that her dad died of cancer and that’s why she hates hospitals.  She says she made a pretty good career out of smiling when she’s scared but she can’t do that with her because she’s so afraid she’s going to lose her.  She starts to cry and Lynette comforts her.

Dylan finds an old photo album from when she was a kid.  Someone (her dad probably) was cut out of the picture.  Her mom comes in and she hides it.  Dylan asks her mom if she can talk to her about something.  She tells her to come with her to do errands.  While they’re gone Bree decides to break into their house to steal the recipe.  She finds the recipe box and it’s locked.  She goes over to Mike and gets his lock cutters to break into the box when they come home.

She overhears Katherine telling Dylan that Mrs. McCluskey was a liar.  Dylan says she wants to know about her father.  She says all you need to know is that he was a monster.  She says she wants to decide that for herself.  Dylan says maybe you’re the monster.  Katherine slaps Dylan who runs off.  Katherine says to her husband she can’t talk to me that way after all I’ve done for her.  He says maybe that’s the problem she doesn’t know.  Katherine says they have to come up with  better lies.  Bree slips out the back and comes home to tell Orson what she heard.

Carlos meets with a shady guy(Someone he met in prison?).  He tells him all about how Edie’s threatening him and he thought he actually has a chance to get back with Gaby.  He says he once cared about Edie but he has no choice. He gives him an envelope of money to take care of Edie.

At the hospital they’ve decorated Lynette’s room and are having a Chemo party.  They take a group picture.

Back to Carlos and his buddy who says he’ll take care of it.
