Desperate Housewives Episode 4.05 “Art Isn’t Easy” Recap
Here’s a recap of tonight’s episode of Desperate Housewives Episode 4.05 "Art isn’t Easy":
Bob and Lee (the new neighbors on Wisteria Lane) got a piece of art delivered and set up on their front lawn. The ladies hate it and think it’s an eye sore. Katherine asks who’s running the home owner’s association. They tell her that nobody’s offered to do it since Mary Alice because it’s a pain in the ass. Katherine decides to run it and get rid of the art right away. Susan suggests that they talk to the guys before taking drastic measures but she can’t come with them because they hate her.
Bree, Gaby and Katherine go up and at first try to be nice and then Katherine blurts out that it’s an eye sore. The guys are offended because they spent lots of money on it and flew it in from Finland. Susan chimes in that she went to art school and she doesn’t mind it. Art is supposed to be subjective she says.
The guys tell them that they’re sorry that the ladies don’t like it but they’re not getting rid of it. The ladies decide to wage war on the sculpture.
The next day Susan and Mike are woken up by the sculpture making lots of noise. Apparently it’s not just ugly, it’s a noisy fountain. Susan comes down and asks them if they can turn it off because they’re trying to sleep and suggests maybe they move it to their back yard. They say that they’re not going to turn it off because they need it to drown out the noise that comes from her house. They walk away and the noise of the fountain drowns out Susan yelling at them about how they should move it.
Lynette climbs up her kid’s tree house to give them some snacks when she gets a call from her doctor. The kids are upset because it’s a rule in their tree house that you can’t talk about cancer or doctors up there. Lynette leaves and feel guilty about her kids having to deal with her cancer.
Orson and Bree are packing muffins to bring to Danielle for her birthday when they learn that Rex’s mom has taken Danielle away from the convent. Flash to a very pregnant Danielle and Phyllis playing video games.
Carlos and Edie are saying goodbye for the weekend. Carlos is going "Golfing with the guys". Yeah right…Anyway Edie gives him monogrammed balls with her initials because she wants everyone to know he’s hers.
Ah yes, I was right! Gaby is getting ready to leave to meet Carlos and waves at him as he drives by when she notices a man in a truck watching her. She asks her young gardeners if they know how long the guy’s been there. She thinks Victor’s having her followed while he’s out of town. She calls Carlos to tell him. He asks if that means it’s off, but she has other plans. She tells the boys to come inside to get paid and when they run out with a little friend who has boobs. The spy doesn’t notice Gaby. She hops on the front of one of the kid’s bikes! Too cute!
Gabrielle arrives at the hotel and bumps into John (Jesse Metcalfe) and his very pregnant wife. John’s wife reminds Gabrielle that her dad owns the hotel and tells her that her dad and Victor go hunting together. John seems really unhappy. Gaby lies and tells them that she’s there alone for a spa weekend.
She leaves them to find Carlos who had been hiding. Carlos didn’t recognize John and Gaby lies and tells them it was some annoying old friend and his idiot wife.
Bree and Orson show up at Phyllis’ place to get Danielle. They tell her she should pack because they’re taking her back to the convent. She says they can’t because she’s turning 18 and she plans on having the baby there and then raising it with the help of her grandmother. Danielle doesn’t want Bree to emasculate her like she did Rex. Bree and Orson are angry and shocked and try to talk her out of it to no avail. She leaves as Bree shouts that she should buy a dictionary.
Bob and Lee come talk to Lynette about the fountain. She wants to stay out of it, but they bring up that the tree house. They compare Katherine to a Nazi. Ick.
Katherine’s talking about the fountain with the homeowner’s association. Lynette comes in to ask if she’s going to check everyone’s yard for stuff that doesn’t fit in. Katherine says as long as things follow the guidelines they won’t be touched. Lynette decides to nominate herself against Katherine to protect her kids’ tree house.
Tom is upset when he finds out Lynette’s running for president. He thinks she should be concentrating on beating her cancer, not Katherine. The funniest moment of the episode is in this scene where Tom suggests he runs instead and Lynnette says that won’t work because bossy women rule the neighborhood. He says "Nobody rules my wife" under his breath and she shakes her knife at him threateningly. Hehe. Lynette says a tumor’s a tumor whether it’s in your body or across the street.
Gaby and Carlos are in their hotel room when Gaby comes out in sexy blue lingerie. Carlos tells her that she shouldn’t bother with that stuff because it just ends up on the floor. Then there’s a knock at the door. Gaby thinks it’s room service until John yells through the door. She tells Carlos to hide. He refuses to until she tells him that John’s wife’s dad hunts with Victor. She pushes him in, puts on a robe and answers the door. John says he misses Gaby and wants to have an affair now. His wife is stupid and boring and he’s trapped.
Lynette goes to Susan to ask for her support and help on the campaign against Katherine. Susan says she’s voting for Katherine because the fountain is awful. Susan says she’ll vote for her if she’ll promise to get rid of the fountain. Lynette says she won’t and suggests earplugs. Susan says why doesn’t she get tree plugs confusing Lynette. She says sorry, tired people aren’t witty and walks off.
Gaby says she’s not interested and John keep trying to remind her of all the fun they had sneaking around on Carlos. Meanwhile Carlos is hearing it all and fuming from the closet. She eventually gets him to leave and Carlos is SO angry.
They argue about what John said and Gaby compares her affair to the one she’s having against Victor now. Carlos storms out.
Katherine and Lynette are campaigning and everyone has complaints.
Bree, Orson and Andrew are sitting down to dinner talking about Danielle. Andrew tells them that Danielle doesn’t care about the baby at all. She just cares about herself and fun. He says that if they want the baby they need to outbid Rex’s mom.
Carlos goes to see John. He promises not to hit him. He tells him that he’s done some thinking and he’s decided it’s time to forgive him for sleeping with his wife. John says he didn’t just sleep with her, he fell in love with her. Carlos says that he recently learned that loving someone sometimes makes you forget the difference between right and wrong. John asks if Gaby’s happy. He says I think she is.
The homeowner’s association is taking their vote. There’s a tie but Susan’s voted twice. Edie points it out and they make Susan decide. I pains her to hurt her friend, but ends up voting for Katherine because of the fountain noise. Katherine tells them that she’ll be in touch about their various infractions and says oh and you too Lynette.
Bree and Orson go back to the retirement home to eat lunch with Danielle. They trick Rex’s mom into going inside to get napkins and then work on Danielle. They bring up that her grandmother is old and then point out the gross old men walking around. They tell her that if she comes home with the baby she’ll get to go to the school in Florida and they’re going to buy her a convertible. When Phyllis comes back panting Danielle tells her they need to talk.
Katherine brings her husband some wine to toast her victory. He’s unhappy with how she’s acting. He says that she isn’t making them friends.
Danielle kisses her grandmother goodbye and leaves. Phyllis is upset. She’s so lonely. Bree agree to let her babysit her grandchild. She asks how she’s going to explain her to her friends. She says she’ll tell them she’s broke and needs the money.
Carlos tells Gaby that they have to end the affair. He wants to break up with Edie and Victor and wait like 6 months and then they can be together. Carlos feels guilty about the cheating. Gaby’s upset but agrees. Maybe she’s going to take John up on the affair after all? They have one last kiss and we see the man in the truck taking pictures of them.
Susan comes to apologize to Lynette. She says she’ll chain herself to the tree when they try to take it down. Susan says she loves her but she can’t ask her to put Lynette’s kids infront of her husband. Lynette explains that the tree house is her kids getaway from her cancer. She cries and tells her that she feels like she’s ruined their childhood. Katherine comes by to tell Lynette that the tree house is staying. Lynette thanks her and says why. Katherine says she wants to be a good neighbor. Lynette tells her that she doesn’t get it. One minute she’s the ice queen and the next she’s really nice. She’s one complicated lady. Katherine says she’s lead a complicated life.
Edie is talking to the private dick about the pictures of Carlos and Gaby. She rants about how much pain she’s going through but the hate is worse. He just wants to get paid.
Katherine walks over to Bob and Lee to talk about the fountain. They tell her that it’s not going anywhere because they know what happened in Chicago. She says whatever they heard was a vicious lie. They says well, regardless it was enough to make her leave town. The fountain stays.
