Desperate Housewives

Desperate Housewives Shut Down Production For Writers Strike

by Leora Israel Zellman on November 17th, 2007

Oh no!  I really hope they can resolve this issue with the writers.  I can’t imagine not getting to see the full season of Desperate Housewives because of this strike.  :(

The writers’ strike entered its ninth day, and the networks’ supply of fresh episodes dwindled. Several series, including NBC’s The Office and ABC’s Desperate Housewives, have already shut down production. Fox’s 24 has been benched until further notice.

Can’t they just hire new writers since the current ones are on strike. I am sure that there are many writers out there who would write for the wages that the shows currently pay, if the writers want to be on strike just replace them it makes the most economic sense

Whoever said they should just hire new writers… I REALLY do not agree with you. The script is cleverly written and I highly doubt there is anyone who could just step in and live up to everyones high expectations for the witty narratives and clever comebacks. I think they should pay the writers more, they deserve it.

It is my understanding, from just googling other articles, that the writers for desperate housewives are not amoung those who initiated the strike. They are however joining the strike because of the writers guild , which is basically a union of sorts.
IOW’s, the writers of desperate housewives aren’t complaineing they’re on strike to support fellow writers who are getting screwed.
Regardless, I hope it all comes to a head sooner than later. This is rediculous. The stage hands in NY just came to terms recently and ended their strike, so hopefully the hollywood writers will follow suit.

I just watched the last episode that was filmed before the writes strike began, and I am left with such suspense that I am going crazy! OH NO!!

Get over yourselves, and pay the writers. You are going to lose more money from people who will stop watching the channels all-around, than paying the people who are the reason for what money you have. So get over it and pay them, I will be so mad if it gets canceled.

Dont get me wrong here, I love desperate housewives but if the writers are gonna throw little hissy fits because they arent getting enough money, then so be it. Fire them, then they’ll get NO money at all…mmmm yea I bet they’ll love being broke, they’ll come crwling back and begging for their jobs back. They always do. And if they dont just get new writers, the show might even be twice as good with new writers. They are all just being greedy and powerhungry.

Hiring new writers is not the solution. First, you are putting writers against each other. Ever hear of the word scab? Second I don’t believe Desperate Housewives would be as good without its current writers. Also, think about all the production crew that lives check to check. The holidays are coming and those people don’t have a job to pay the heat let alone give their family a good holiday.

it is not fair to all the devoted fans to wonder what happened after the tornado hit on the December 3rd episode. They need to pay the writers already because even if they hire new writers the show wont be the same. This show is awesome….they deserve to be paid good. look how many fans there are. that tells you how good these writers are!

The writers are being foolish. I gaurantee they are making loads of cash.. they’re just jealous that the actors are getting more. well thats life. they just need to suck it up and come back. but from my understanding the desperate housewives writers are just doing it to support the writers that actually DO need more money. well they can quit being heroic and come back and write some gosh dang scripts. i wanna know who else died… obviously victor and the chick that was hilariously/cheesily blown away (i laughed at that haha) died.. but i wonder who else died. im guessing carlos but idk really? they said in the beginning a FRIEND and a HUSBAND.. husband=victor who is not a FRIEND. and either was the random crazy chick. sooo that leaves tom, ida, carlos… the gay guys? who knows? but i think if it were tom it woulda said TWO women would lose husbands.. and they just couldnt do that to lynette she just beat cancer for christs sake.

NOOOOOO!!!!! I think the writers should get their money and stop being so whinny cause we need some entertainment. This is the coolest show ever and I want to see what happens after the tornado!

The writers of DH are not being whiny. MARC CHERRY is the one that decided to support the writers’ strike. So everyone that’s saying this and that about the writers of DH needing to suck it up and get on with it - well, it’s the beloved creator of the show you all love so much who decided this was the best solution. So you will just have to be patient. Anyway, they need to do what they need to do. And if he felt that was best, then just wait it out. The show will come back - trust me. As far as who died, it is Victor and Ida. (those are the two they talked about at the beginning.) …and it looks like Sylvia didn’t fare too well either. ;)

Anyway, just be patient guys. We all agree that Marc is witty and clever and a genius for creating this show at all. So he must not be so stupid as to make an unwise business decision. I’m sure he has very good and solid reasons for encouraging his writers to join the strike. :)

omg why r the writers being such big babies and why are the producers being such assholes? why can’t they just learn to get along?! god! its not like anyones getting any money this way anyways. just pay the friggen writers and writers stop complaining about every friggen thing! just bring the show back! the longer this goes on the more veiwers will eventually lose hope or interest and then they wont get any money. they better hurry the frig up and end this.

so does that mean that “Something’s Coming” was the last episode that was been shot?

they have filmed the tenth episode but dont know when to air it

  • john
    Dec 3, 2007 at 9:56 pm

Episode 4-10 AIRDATE UNKNOWN, thanks to the strike. It’s been filmed, but it’s uncertain when it will air.

Katherine gets her hands on the note her aunt left before she died.

Either Carlos or Tom is paralyzed, but he doesn’t tell the woman in his life, who thinks his legs are merely broken.

A memorial service at a church is packed with mourners. Gabrielle sits in the front pew, dressed in black. Overcome with emotion, she flees the church.

As the neighbors look on, firefighters rescue people from Mrs. McCluskey’s destroyed house. Ida Greenberg was killed.

Adam and Katherine ID Sylvia’s body at the morgue, as the dead woman had the couple’s address in her pocket without any other ID. Adam claims he knew the woman from outside Fairview and assumed Sylvia was stopping by to say hello. Katherine’s affected by this but tries to avoid saying anything in front of the medical examiner.

Mike’s at a rehab center. He meets a woman who’s there for the third time. He’s not interested in attending the group session and the woman realizes he’s not ready for it.

Bree wants a contractor to do some emergency repairs on her home. She invites him over for dinner in hopes of buttering him up. (The dinner’s at Susan’s, thanks to the house damage.) Knowing he’s gay and recently single, she makes sure Andrew is present. Complications arise when Susan has her own gay guy she’d like Andrew to be with!

Two of the women help Ida Greenberg’s nephew load his aunt’s possessions into his van.. The other woman’s upset to learn the man doesn’t plan to spread the ashes at a stadium as his aunt wanted. She offers to retrieve the ashes from the woman’s house for the nephew. (Note: the nephew may actually be a niece.) The women must break into the stadium to spread the ashes, where they’re caught by police. One of the women shakes the ashes out as she runs.

Either Gabrielle or Edie attends the wake of Carlos’ CPA, who’d arranged the move of his offshore account. (He died, off-screen, from tornado related injuries too) The woman feigns grief when she meets the man’s wife for the first time, but what she wants to know is where his files are. After learning they’re nearby, she makes a quick exit.

    Various spoilers

Look for Katherine’s ex-husband to pop up once the strike’s over. The show was casting for the character when the strike ended, and Ray Liotta was being considered for the role.

well i agree somewhat with the writers, but just think about it, they obviously can afford to go without money if they are on strike without any income!!!! but they just need to go back to the way things were!!!!!!! all of my shows are ending, and i REALLY dont get why it’s so bad to be the writer of a hit nationally broadcasted television show!!!

  • chris
    Dec 4, 2007 at 2:03 am

The D.H. writers are not who initiated the strike. They are supporting the Guild and joining the strike for extra strength.

    Pay them.
Do you want your boss to consider you ‘whiny’ when you ask for a well deserved raise? No….Everyone likes a piece of the pie. So share and share alike.

    Pay them already.

But 2009 is only like another year, that isn’t that long at all. I would die if they canceled the show. I am in between on the spoilers! I love them and hate them all at the same time. I want to wait, but I can’t help but read them. So thank you, and screw you John.

But I agree with them for supporting the other writer’s. It’s a good thing to have unity in employment, among other places.

Wow! This is ridiculous!! I’m @ the point of giving up on the show already and our family has never missed an episode since day one! I went digging around once again to see if the problem is fixed and apparently not. However, I do feel we as fans should be informed, after all, we make this show what it is just as much as the writers and the actors by tuning in! Hell, we even own the games too! So, where is the loyalty to the fans? Wake up already people and acknowledge there are other networks airing updated shows that we are watching while you have your heads up your butts and soon, if not already, we will become loyal to those shows instead and your ratings will be in the toilet!!
