Is Marc Cherry’s Mom TOO Much like Marcia Cross?
Mrs. Cherry sure looks like Bree! On the plane coming home from Toronto for a family wedding (that’s why I wasn’t posting much over the weekend, sorry) the plane had satellite TV. Very cool, but even cooler was the fact that there was a special on Desperate Housewives on one of the channels. They talked about each actress and it was quite informative. The most interesting snippet of information was that the creator of Desperate Housewives, Marc Cherry initially modeled the character of Bree from his own mother, but when he auditioned Marcia Cross for the role, she was too much like her and spooked Cherry. Does this mean his mom had an affair with a pharmacist who poisoned Cherry’s Dad? Eek! I’m glad he changed his mind about Marcia though, because I love how Marcia Cross plays Bree Van De Camp: The creator of DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES didn’t want to cast MARCIA CROSS in the hit show - because she reminded him too much of his mother. While it was relatively easy for Cherry to choose the comedy’s other cast members, he initially found it tough to embrace Cross as obsessive-compulsive housewife BREE VAN DE CAMP. He says, “I wasn’t sure about Marcia… She was perfect, (but) I think she was too much like my mother.
