Recap 5.1 ‘You’re Gonna Love Tomorrow’
September 28, 2008 by Julie Bonner
Well, I am still debating what I thought of episode 5.1 “You’re Gonna Love Tomorrow”. I did think the story line was a little slow. I know that the writers were trying to re-introduce us to the characters, since they have changed so much in 5 years, but something was lacking for me. I am hoping the drama and comedy that Desperate Housewives used to be known for picks up a bit next week.
What did you all think about the season 5 premiere? Did it meet your expectations?
Read my recap below.
Mike and Susan
So the show opens up with a flashback of Susan giving birth to MJ and a lady across the hall also giving birth. Then we see Mike and Susan looking extremely happy and heading out on a date. Mike and Susan’s car crashed into another one and we find out towards the end that the wreck killed the family. It was the same lady giving birth across the hall from Susan. How sad.
We don’t see much of Mike in this episode and that’s what I expected. We do get to see another flashback of them fighting over the wreck and Susan accusing Mike of not taking care of the breaks. The fact that they killed that mother and child is more than Susan can handle. Mike walks out and it’s over.
At the end, Mike comes over to Susan’s house to pick up the adorable MJ (seriously, that is one cute kid) and Mike asked Susan what she’s doing over the weekend. She opens up and tells him that she’s kind of seeing something and that she’ll probably do something with him. Mike looks surprised but genuinely happy.
Jackson and Susan
Jackson is Susan’s house painter and now they are lovers. Nice.
The first time we are introduced to Jackson is when him and Susan are romping around in the sheets. After they are, um, done…she tells him it’s time to go and he is wondering why he can not meet her son, her friends, or ever sleep over. Susan won’t tell him and he goes home.
The next day when Susan walks into her house, Jackson is there and he casually takes off his painter pants. He’s standing there in his undies when Lynette walks in to complain about Tom’s parenting skills. Jackson manages to disappear into thin air and Susan’s secret is still safe.
He then shows up at a party where Susan and all of her friends are and she is not happy he is there. He gets up on stage and starts singing “I want to be your boyfriend”. Completely out of tune, but hey, it was a cute gesture. Susan pulls the plug on the electricity and grabs Jackson off stage. They have a little talk and Susan lets him know why she can’t commit to anything. She tells him about the wreck with Mike and that she doesn’t feel she deserves to be happy. Jackson said he is sticking around and not going anywhere. I wonder if these two will last.
Lynette, Tom and Their Twin Hotties
Lynette walks into their pizzeria on a Monday night to find that her twins are running a mini gambling ring. She is none too happy, says the party is over and kicks every one out. Her boys try to state their case but she’s not buying it. She grounds them from the dance.
While Tom is polishing his very nice car, Lynette is talking to him about the boys and that she thinks he needs to have a talk with them. When she hears them talking, Tom is actually encouraging their little gambling ring and thinks it’s pretty darn cool. He then un-grounds them and Lynette is pissed.
They sit down and talk with the boys and tell them that yes they can go to the dance and Lynette says that they can even take their dad’s car. That was her little way of stickin’ it to him. Nice one Lynette.
Lynette and Tom have another talk about how he needs to be their parent and not a friend. When the boys get home 30 minutes late for their curfew, Tom takes charge and lets them know they are in some trouble. He then walks over and kicks off the side mirror on his precious car. Lynette was surprised, but he tells her he has already ordered a new one.
Gabby, Carlos and Juanita
Carlos is still blind, Gabby wears ugly clothes and they have two daughters. Daughters who are overweight and that was the main story for the Solis’. Juanita is in the store trying on princess costumes for a party she is going to. The largest size at that store doesn’t fit her and the clerk makes the “weight issue” comment.
Gabby is at the party and overhears some moms talking about her overweight daughter and Gabby’s parenting skills. They say she obviously can’t say no. Juanita was on her second piece of sheet cake. Gabby tried to talk Juanita into going to the park to run around and she is completely not interested. So, Gabby comes up with a “game”. She basically makes Juanita chase the car and every time she tries to get in the car, Gabby pulls up. As you can imagine, Juanita doesn’t like this game very much and makes a smart move by catching the city bus. Smart 4 year old!
Gabby and Carlos talk about their daughters weight issues. Carlos was smothering Juanita’s brussel sprouts with cheese. Nasty. He says that’s the only way she’ll eat them.
At the end of the show, we see Gabby looking at herself in the mirror and sees how she’s let herself go. It looks like the Solis family has some changes to make and I can’t wait to see how it all unfolds.
Bree and Katherine
This was a “partnership” waiting for a disaster. Bree is a successful business woman, which involved cooking of course. Katherine is her employee and not happy about it, obviously.
Bree authored a cook book with over half of Katherine’s recipes in it, but didn’t give her credit. Bree said she altered the recipes and they are not Katherine’s. Katherine then looks at one of the recipes and says she know Bree has never worked with molten sugar (I think that’s what it was, lol).
Katherine figures out a way to get back at Bree and it’s while they are filming a segment with Bree. Katherine pretends that she sprains her wrist while mixing up the sugar and so she can’t finish the recipe. She insist that Bree finish it up (while they are taping of course). Bree obviously doesn’t know what she’s doing and messes up the whole recipe. Katherine looks very satisfied. Do you think this Bree/Katherine relationship will work?
We also got to see a flashback where Bree’s daughter Danielle came and took her son away. The son that Bree had been raising. Bree was devastated. We saw Orson for a slit second and he has gray hair, lol.
Edie and Dave
Dave is an interesting character. He’s very mysterious and I can’t imagine seeing Edie with someone who didn’t have secrets and issues. We first see Dave as he talks an elderly man into letting him buy his house, which just so happens to be on Wisteria Lane.
Edie is officially back on the block! Lynette sees Edie out the window and she’s on the phone saying “She’s baaaaaack”. The girls all get together with Edie and meet her new husband. Edie is shocked at what has happened to Gabby. When Edie asked what happened to her she says she had two daughters. Edie says “What, for lunch?” lol Dave tells Edie that she needs to be nice and the ladies are shocked that it worked. They like this Dave guy. If only they knew what he was up to.
The ladies throw Edie a party and she thinks it’s a “We’re sorry party” for running her out of Wisteria Lane. They are a little shocked and say that it’s actually a “We forgive you party”. Edie is pissed and asked Dave why they HAD to move back to Wisteria Lane. He wanted to movie back and has his reasons, but she doesn’t know what they are.
Later, Dave gets a call from his doctor and says that he’s not calling in like he’s supposed. He said it was part of the agreement of his release. Release from what? A medical center or wackos. The man has major rage issues and no one in Wisteria Lane knows that yet. Not even Edie. I have no idea what his plans are, but they should make for an interesting show!
