Recap 5.3 ‘Kids Ain’t Like Everybody Else’

Desperate Housewives episode 5.3 “Kids Ain’t Like Everybody Else” had a theme and it was all about being bullied. Kids bullying kids. Grown ups bullying (and manipulating) grownups.
I am still not thrilled with this season. It is lacking something and I keep waiting for an episode to really have some good drama and a really good story line. Does anyone here agree with me? Isn’t season 5 missing something?
Anyway, here’s my recap for 5.3 “Kids Ain’t Like Everybody Else”.
Bree, Danielle, Benjamin and Orson:
Danielle and her new husband Leo showed up to Wisteria Lane to bring their son Benjamin for a 3 day stay with Bree and Orson. It was great to see Danielle back!
Bree was her usual critical self and Orson was basically telling her to please try to bite her tongue. Guess what? She couldn’t. Surprise, surprise.
So, basically Benjamin calls Danielle “Danielle” and not mom. Bree didn’t like that. She said she didn’t want him to call her Bree and Danielle said she told him to call her granny. Benjamin is a vegetarian. Bree didn’t like that. Danielle is homeschooling Benjamin. Bree didn’t like that. Needless to say, Bree doesn’t like the way Benjamin is being raised at all.
Bree took Benjamin to a park and fed him a hot dog. Big mistake there. She told him not to tell his mom. At a dinner party, Benjamin got sick and threw up at the table. Danielle saw hot dogs in his throw up. Nasty. Danielle was not happy and they ended up leaving the next day.
Orson was also not pleased with Bree’s decisions and told her how he felt when he came home from prison and Benjamin was gone. He told her she should have fought harder for him. Benjamin didn’t even know who Orson was when they came over. It broke his heart.
Susan, MJ, Juanita and Gaby:
MJ kept coming home with scrapes and his shirt ripped. Susan asked him who was bullying him and he wouldn’t tell her. He said he wanted to talk to his dad. He talked to Mike and told him he wanted to learn how to fight. As Susan and Mike were talking about this whole fighting this, she looks out her window and sees Juanita push MJ down.
Susan runs outside and asks if Juanita is the one bullying him. He says yes. Susan confronts Gaby about Juanita and it didn’t go so well. Susan calls Juanita fat and Gaby told Susan that MJ needs to grow a pair.
Susan gave MJ a whistle to blow in case Juanita is bullying him again. While Susan is coloring her hair, she hears the whistle. Juanita is trying to get the whistle from MJ and he won’t give it to her. Susan comes outside and ends up pushing Juanita on the ground. Gaby sees it and runs over.
Susan tries to handle the situation maturely and starts walking away when Gaby makes a comment about her gray hair. Yep, that sent Susan over the edge and that’s when they got into their little rolling around on the grass cat fight.
Susan comes over the next day to apologize to Gaby. She brought booze, so Gaby lets her in, lol. They bond over some booze and Gaby really opened up about being unhappy. Susan talks about how she is clueless about raising boys. Gaby said she just feels beaten down and Susan told her maybe it’s time to take stand against her bullies.
Gaby and Carlos:
Gaby and Carlos needed to sell their pretty car. Gaby was not happy about it because she said it was the last thing she had that said she was better than everyone else. Carlos said they had a mortgage to pay. They ended up selling it to a couple who was buying it for their nanny.
Gaby decides to buy Andrew’s old car and she was unsuccessful in talking down the price. She bought the “piece of crap” as Andrew called it. As she is driving down the street it starts smoking. She took it to a mechanic who told her she bought a lemon and it needed a new radiator. She approaches Andrew about selling her a lemon and tells him he owes her $300 to get it fixed. He refuses.
Later, Gaby pulls up behind Andrew’s shiny new red sports car and threatens to ram it if he didn’t give her the money. Long story short….he gave her $300 cash. Gaby was very proud of herself. She stood up to a bully.
Katherine, Mrs. McCluskey, Edie and Dave:
Mrs. McCluskey asks Katherine if she has found anything out about Dave and she says no. She said there are a ton of Dave Williams and she doesn’t know anything about him to know which Dave Williams he is.
They invite Edie to lunch to try and press her for some info about Dave. They find out that she doesn’t know anything about Dave. Mrs McCluskey’s completely unsubtle ways makes Edie uncomfortable and she leaves and they know nothing more about Dave.
At a party they attended, they started pressing Dave for information, asking him where he went to college. He wouldn’t say anything about it and then Edie started pressing him for info. She made him very uncomfortable and he ended up telling him that he didn’t go to college and it was something he was embarrassed about.
Later that night at their home, Dave ask Edie why she did that. She said she just wanted to know more about him and then she said she was sorry and it was Mrs. McCluskey’s fault. He asked why and she told him about their lunch when she was asked all those questions. Dave then said that he thinks Mrs. McCluskey is senile. He wants Edie to think that and obviously has some sort of plan for Mrs. McCluskey. This story should get interesting.
Tom and Lynette:
Lynette is having Tom clean out the garage and isn’t letting him keep stuff that he wants to hold on to, like his mountain climbing equipment and guitar. She told Tom that he’s never going to use the mountain climbing stuff because he gets winded getting out of the tub, lol.
Dave comes over and convinces Tom to keep his guitar. Dave tells him that he knows how to play the drums and that they should play together. They get set up in the garage for their “garage band” and Lynette walks in. She’s not too happy about the whole band thing and tried to talk Tom out of it. Tom stands up to her and him and Dave play for three hours straight.
Lynette places Tom’s guitar in the garage on the floor so that Tom will run over it. Which he does and he is so sad. She blames it on Penny.
Later, Dave comes over to the house with a new guitar and Lynette says they can’t accept it. Dave starts talking about mid-life crises and how some men do bad things during this and some do things like start a band. Lynette gets what he is saying and Dave tells her to give the guitar to Tom from her.
At the end of the episode, we see Tom and Lynette on the porch and she is giving him the new guitar. Dave smiles his evil little smile and his plan is well underway.
What did you think of this episode? I’ll put up a poll tomorrow.
