Recap Desperate Housewives Season Finale Episode 323: “Getting Married Today”

by Leora Israel Zellman on May 20th, 2007

Wow, tonight’s episode of Desperate Housewives was a doozy!  My thoughts on how everything went down are after the break so as to not spoil anything for those of you who haven’t seen it yet.  Enjoy!

Poor Gabrielle has suspicions that she shouldn’t marry Victor when his father played by Mike Farrell (You might remember him from Providence) starts talking about him running for Governor.  It turns out she should have listened to her initial thoughts because we find out in the end after they have already tied the knot that he only married her because she’s Latina and good for getting votes.  Then she ends up fooling around with Carlos on her own wedding day!  Talk about messed up.

Oh and Carlos finds out Edie’s been taking the pill and was lying to him about wanting a baby and freaks out at her during the wedding.  Hence why Carlos is really drunk and ends up with Gabrielle.

As for Susan and Mike…Susan’s planning an elaborate wedding that Mike knows is going to cost big bucks so he starts working nights and is exhausted.  When Susan sees that he’s fallen asleep during the reception after Gaby’s wedding she decides to forget her fancy plans and to have a quiet romantic ceremony with just Julie and a priest that same night.  It’s really cute.  Julie pretends to be someone in need of a plumber and gives Mike the address to the middle of nowhere…then the minister meets him with a suit and walks him through the woods to his wedding.  Very cute, but it seems a bit too good to be true for Mike and Susan.  I wonder why their storyline is ending without a cliffhanger like everyone else this season?

Then there’s Bree who seems to have returned to Fairview pregnant.  When I saw her bump I thought "Aha, Marcia Cross hasn’t lost the baby weight yet.  What a great way to buy her some time to get back into Bree’s tiny cardigans."  Then I started wondering who the father could be when Orson says he’ll love the baby like it’s his own.  I thought maybe it could be George’s (The crazy pharmacist).  There’s also something strange going on with Danielle who I almost forgot was pregnant herself.  Then just before the answer was revealed I pieced it together.  Bree and Orson sent Danielle away to have her baby and in the meantime Bree will pretend to be pregnant.  Then they’ll make people think Danielle’s baby is theirs.  Cute idea!  I have a feeling that Danielle’s not going to like Bree raising her kid though.  I anticipate some issues over child rearing in the next season.

A storyline that I’m really not looking forward to next season though is Lynette’s.  I can’t believe they gave that poor woman cancer!  And her mom’s going to be hanging around to boot?  That’s going to be SO awful.  She better not die because she’s one of my favorite characters.  Erg, and I can’t stand Kayla!  What a little witch telling Lynette’s mom about Rick!

Last but not least we have Edie.  It seems she really loved Carlos and is so heartbroken when he tells her it’s over that she hangs herself.  I wonder if Nicollette Sheridan is actually leaving the show?  It was a small scarf though and we don’t see her hanging for long so it’s possible she’ll live.  I guess we’ll find out next season!

Great cliffhanger!  I really enjoyed this season of Desperate Housewives.  It may not have been as fresh and original as the first season but it definitely was fun to watch and better than last season.

Stay tuned over the summer for spoilers, gossip, contests and new features!  The Show may be on hiatus, but Desperateblog won’t be!

I hope Nicollette is not leaving the show!!!!!! It wouldn’t be the same without her and she is such a “must-have” character, it seems! It was bad enough with Bree gone! I can’t imagine why they would now have Edie away from the show.

I Think, (Knowing her sneaky personality) That she is staging it to get him back.

I think that a suicide shown on any hit show is irresponsible of the writers, actors and directors. It could lead to copy cat suicide attempts and completions.

Other than this HUGE no-no, the show was fun and I look forward to next season

First Off all the finale was great! Second of all, I couldn’t help but comment on the posting above mine. Anyone who copies something they see on TV is stupid and naive to begin with. It’s a TV show, total fiction, get over it.

WOW! I was STUNNED at the season finale! I actually said, “SHUT UP!” out loud when I saw that Edie was hanging herself. She went through the trouble of writing her ‘Beloved Carlos’ a letter and everything. AMAZING series. SUPERB finale. And, Patrice, if people are stupid enough to take their own lives, they aren’t going to be pushed over the edge by a TV show about housewives in a suburban neighborhood, get a clue. LOVE THE SHOW! I hope they keep Edie DEAD, I hate her sneaky ways and her selfish behavior. Good riddance.

The scarf probably ripped and she fell, or Carlos went to check up on her and caught her.

OR she could replace the narrator next season

Great finale! I, for one, am glad that SOMEBODY finally got to have a happy ending - Susan and Mike were perfect. Hope Edie is still with us - one suicide in the neighborhood is enough! Wonderful season all the way around and can’t wait for the next one!

I hope Edie is not dead, I always liked her…and it wouldn’t be fun if all the characters were such goddie-goodies, the show needs somebody like her.
Susan and Mike, soooooo cute, and finally they got married, I was hoping for them to tie the knot ever since the first season
and Bree was finally back…her storyline was pretty lame, though, that was exactly what I suspected would happen even before I saw the episode

I don’t think it is about people who may or may not wish to be copycats, re a TV character’s suicide. However for those of us who have lived through it in real life, especially by the same method, it brings up terrible and painful memories.

Are we forgetting that the entire show is based on a woman who committed suicide and is narrating her friends’ lives? If people want to ‘copycat’ the suicide, we should be worried about them copying the adultery, murder, lies, disrespecting of parents, betrayal of friends, overspending, storing of dead bodies, and all the other crazy things that make this show the best show!
The season finale was so full of twists that I had to watch it twice to make sure I caught it all. I missed BREE!!!

I loved the season finale! I really hope Edie is NOT dead! That would stink, she’s the girl we love to hate, and she makes the show oh-so juicy! I am SO happy that Mike and Susan, finnaly had a happy ending! They deserve it! I kept thinking has Mike was driving that something bad would happen, but thankfully I was wrong! Gabby and Carlos were definatly meant for eachother! & hopefully next season they FINNALY get back together! Cause they were definatly made for eachother! Bree and orson…. kinda weird story plot going on with them, but it’s pretty funny how there actually getting away with it, and I was so surprised when I saw that she had a fake bump! I actually thought that she was still pregent with her twin girls! Boy was I wrong! DANG, that woman sheds that baby weight fast! Lynette BETTER survive, and I do have a good feeling that she will survive, but it will be a tough fight. That little girl/stepdaughter of her’s was annoying as heck! but she is a good addition to the show if you ask me, atleast she’s not as bad as her mom… man that lady was annoying as heck, I was actually really happy when she was killed off, cause she annoyed the heck outta me! btw Lynettes mom is really good on the show, she is so funny and she fits in really well into the show! Anyways, all and all I thought that that was a really great season finale! I AM SO LOOKING FORWARD TO NEXT SEASON!!!!! YAY! geez, I am so excited! I can’t even wait!!!!!!!

They already tried to put a new narrator voice (Rex’s) but as we all knw, that didn’t work. Maybe Edie will be the new narrator in season 4, but lets hope we get more of Nicolette Sheridan in the show.

i hope Edie is not dead. she was a great character, rumor has it that British actress Claire King will be coming into the show next season to play Edie’s sister, wounder how that will work out??
Also on Wikipedia under Nicolette’s time for desperate housewives it says 2004-2007 and all the other stars it says 2004-present, i don’t know if that is just to keep the suspense until next season to see if she is dead or not.
Apparently Victor dies and carlos and Gabbi get back togeather!!

Come on girls! There is no way on this earth Edie would hang herself for ANYONE… and if she was going to leave the show she would give herself a much bigger and better send off. She would take all of Wysteria Lane down with her… and you know it! Apart from my initial shock at her attention seeking stunt - I am more looking forward to how our little Gabbie gets that good for nothing husband of her’s back and completely ruins his political career ;-)
