Ricardo Chavira’s a great guy!
Forget his somewhat conniving character on Desperate Housewives, the actor who plays Carlos is a great guy! He’s working with husbands of women with breast cancer:
There is the beginning of a men’s movement — an effort to reach out to bewildered breast cancer husbands. One spokesman is Ricardo Chavira, who plays hot-tempered Carlos on “Desperate Housewives.” When he was a teenager, his mother died of breast cancer. Working with the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, he’s educating men about the disease. He knows all the problems: guys who fear their sexual relationship with their wife will vanish forever because she has a disease in her breast (believe me, it won’t). And guys whose No. 1 instinct is to “fix it.”
“You can’t fix it, you can’t bury it, you can’t beat the hell out ofit,” Chavira says. “If you do that, man, you’re in for a real hardroad.”
His advice: Accept the fact your wife has breast cancer and try to understand how she’s feeling. “Breast cancer is an obstacle,” he says, “but an obstacle you can embrace and carry along with you.” from Seattle Pi
