What Do the Desperate Housewives Think of the Five Year Flash Forward?
USA Today has a great article about the 5 year flash forward that has had all Desperate Housewives fans talking ever since we heard about it.
They asked writer Marc Cherry “Why the drastic turn?” His response was that it offers “cleanliness”. He also said, “One of the problems I had with Season 2 was that I had to keep going with the previous year’s stuff. I learned you have to go back to square one to build up the tension again. Finally, this year I said, ‘Why don’t we really mix it up?‘ ”
Oh, they definitely mixed things up that’s for sure!
More about the season finale below the cut.
We know get to hear what the Desperate Housewives thought of the flash forward. Most of them were so hush hush about it and now they can finally speak out about their thoughts.
“I didn’t believe it,” says Felicity Huffman (Lynette). “I thought it was some bizarre rumor.”
Dana Delaney (Katherine) thought it was great and said, “It’s very liberating for both the writers and actors.”
What did Eva Longoria (Gabby) think? “It’s a great way to push the reset button,” she said.
So how did Cherry let the cast know about the time shift? He asked all but the main cast to leave the room and then dropped the bombshell on them. James Denton, who we don’t know the fate of his return yet, said that all eyes turned to him when they found out about the fact that he was not in the 5 year flash forward. Does Denton know if he will return yet? He won’t receive official word of his fate until mid-June.
Here’s a list of those who won’t be returning:
Among those who for certain won’t return are Joy Lauren (Bree’s daughter, Danielle), who is heading off to Columbia University; Andrea Bowen (Susan’s daughter, Julie); Lyndsy Fonseca (Katherine’s daughter, Dylan), who has landed a new series pilot; and the child actors who have played Tom and Lynette Scavo’s children since the first season.
Doug Savant, who plays Tom Scavo said that he is devastated for the kids. He says that the business is hard enough for adults to deal with.
Who are the two little girls that we saw playing Gabriella and Carlos’ twin girls. They are Kaila Say and Daniella Baltodano, and they will play Juanita and Celia. They are definitely going to change some things for Gabby’s character, some of which we already saw. LOL.
One of the most interesting items in this article was this comment by about the final season:
And he is not necessarily done time-jumping. Cherry is pondering what it would be like to set Housewives’ seventh and final season in the past — when a pre-suicide Mary Alice Young was still keeping the secret of her stolen child, Mrs. Huber was still alive as the town gossip, and Bree was still married to first husband Rex.
CRAZY!!!

I also did not like that Mike isn’t in the picture anymore, especially because it seems that season spent so much time on Susan and Mike making their relationship stronger and besides, i really like the two of them together!
Gabrielle cannot have kids! i absolutely fell in love with her character even more in these last two episodes before the 5 year flash forward madness. I got to remembering why i started to love the show in the first place, and that was due largely in part to Gabby’s character, I’ll be so upset to see that go. I think Bree turned out the way I would expect, I like that her and Orson are still together and she gets along with her son, i’d love to see where her daughter is though after those 5 years that magically passed. Lynette’s situation left me neutral - i see her as the “mom” who always deals with the kids, so I suppose what happened in the last 3 minutes of the episode fits well. I hope next season reveals that this was all a dream or some hallucination - i’d hate to have them change the show on us like that :(
