Wow, What an Episode!!

May 18, 2008 by Julie Bonner

I just got through watching the season finale of Desperate Housewives and I have one thing to say….Where IS Mike? Not Mike! Mike can’t be gone!! Anyone but Mike! I’m SO sad. :(

Okay, now that I got that off my chest…until I get the recap put together, let’s discuss this episode. I want to know what you thought. Here are a few questions:

  • What did you think of the 5 year flash forward that was the last 5 minutes of the show?! I thought for a minute it wasn’t going to happen.
  • Were Katherine’s secrets anything you expected?
  • Did you like how the women pulled together at the end for Katherine?
  • Were you disappointed that Edie wasn’t in the flash forward and what do you think that means?
  • Was there anything about this episode that disappointed you?
  • Was there anything about this episode that you absolutely loved?

I’ll have the recap up soon!

WOW! What an episode is right!

For a while, especially based on last week’s episode I was so sure I’d end up hating Katherine. I’m glad to see I was wrong. I felt so badly for her, I felt like I would’ve stuck by her just as the girls pulled through for her. I’m not surprised they did so. The girls always come through so strongly for the other.

One sentence for this… BRAVO for Tom!

Mike’s gone? He can’t be… they must have something in store for him. What happened? Did he fall off the band wagon? He buy drugs from Ellie shortly before she died and got caught? Susan leave him for that?

I thought I was going to hate the fast forward moment. But it was done really well. And I was glad to see Mary Alice appear in the finale. That was nice. I miss her…

Gabby’s let herself go, or has she? Is she pregnant? Are those kids adopted? What’s up with that? Did you notice one was named Juanita? How’d Carlos pull that one off? Mama Solis must still have an influence…

This episode was definitely better than 2-3, and the finale sure brought back some excitement.

I told some friends earlier I wish our time could flash forward 4 months so we could see the new season! But, unfortunately, we can’t all be as lucky as the housewives on Wisteria Lane.

ahhh what happened to mike? and their baby?
    makes no sense…

  3. sreggem says:

i was super confused by the 5 year flash. to me it seemed like they were ending the series, but that can’t be true. are they going to start next season explaining what has happened in the last 5 years, or are they going to start where they finished (before the 5 year flash forward)? i’m not really a fan of the 5 year outlook.
edie wasn’t included because they’ve stopped talking to her. they don’t even acknowledge her anymore because she’s such a beyotch.

  4. Sarah says:

i thought that it was a bad ending. that means that when it starts again in september it is going to be all wierd. no mike, the kids are all grown, bree is like super worker… i just dont like it. and the way it ended seemed like they were wrapping up the series not the season. it was very unsettling.

  5. Candace says:

I’m extremely depressed over seeing Susan kiss a new husband who is not Mike. He made me fall in love with the show! I really hope Dylan is back next season. I love the engagement story line. I love Gabby with twins. Andrew looks great in a suit. I think Kayla should return to wreak havoc. As for expectations, I did not expect the old Dylan to have an armoir crush her into the floor. I am missing DH already!

  6. Maggie says:

I am totally confused by the ending episode, but I’m glad that I’m not the only one. There are to many questions that arose from the last couple of minutes. Also, if the rumors are true I am definitely going to miss Edie

  7. Carrie says:

I thought someone was dreaming the whole thing. Maybe that is how they will start next season…Someone will wake up. I hate the whole idea of going 5 years in the future. Surely the creative writers can come up with something better. I don’t want Mike to be gone either. In my opinion he is not present enough. All in all, I thought it was a pretty good season finale up to the last five minutes….I did not care for the ending at all.
I had the whole Katherine thing figured out…just wasn’t really sure how the girl died.

  8. Miranda says:

I’m really glad everyone is as confused as I am, I didn’t like the 5 year forward thing either. It was pretty confusing, ESPECIALLY Susan’s new boyfriend. What is that?! Just after they had a baby and got everything figured out… And Gabby with a kid? Seriously? I really hope they explain what happened in those five years in the next episode. It’s just too random!
I enjoyed the rest of the episode though, one of the best finales they’ve had. I liked how the Katherine killing Wayne happened, because I knew eventually she’d do it, but I love how everything transpired. I also liked how they did Katherine’s flashback to all that. And I like how the ladies helped Katherine out at the end, it was all heartwarming and such :)
I’m actually relieved that Kayla is gone though, every time she pulled some crazy scheme it was painful to even watch!
Here’s hoping that the new episode in the fall explains those five crazy years…..

  9. Nat says:

I was horrified at the story of “Dylan’s” death, I never thought I would end up liking Katherine. That was so horrible to realize she lost her child like that and then without warning the five year flash forward. I hated it. I understand for writing purposes it is a good idea but for viewers not such an easy pill to swallow. I felt like I had no idea who these people were and felt so sad that everything had changed so drastically. I really don’t know if I like were they are going and I hope it is not real and they fix it next season. I feel cheated!!

  10. Betty says:

It was a very surprising and in my opinion great finale!!! Katherine’s secret was obvious but it was still a really exciting revealing!

I don’t think Mike is gone from the show, I think he will have a huge part next season, probably trying to get Susan back or something after they separated for whatever reason, if he’s not dead of course lol

I’m so excited and confused, I’m going to miss the scavo kids, I heard Julie and Danielle are not coming back and that’s sad :(

There will be a lot of expectations by the beginning of next season and that’s a good thing, I can’t wait to know what stories happened in those 5 years, as long as it doesn’t turn into a Lost kind of show, I’m sure the writers won’t disappoint the fans of the show :)

  11. Jodi says:

Couldn’t stand the 5 year flash, what were the writers thinking? I think they stayed on strike to long in regards to that. The rest of the finale was really good though. I thought it was going to be the end of the show or something. I can’t imagine the show starting five year ahead, it has to be a bad dream or somethig from one of the cast, maybe Mike. Well I guess we will find out in about 4 months or so…

  12. kisy says:

    sad ending!!

  13. Vee says:

I loved the flash forward! I wish there were more surprising elements with the other women, but I guess its nice to see some lives settled a bit.

I absolutely loved seeing the women pull through for Katherine like that. It really strengthens the series for me especially after everyone’s questionable behavior they are all still really good people and good friends.

The one thing I kept waiting for was the spoiler I read about Kayla on several sites. I kept waiting for it and it never happened! I was sure that was going to be a major shocker.

Ellie’s story was sad but completely predictable. It was fun, though while it lasted. The Katherine thing was rather predictable as well but VERY well done.

  14. Linda says:

Hated the 5 year flash forward! Please, next season pretend it was all a dream!

  15. movieaddicted says:

What an amazing episode! I loved it, but I don’t know why Mike is gone, and just after the beautiful baby, it’s so sad, he and Susan were perfect together!!!!!
I like the 5 years flash forward because it makes the new series totally unpredictable.
Gabrielle’s twins were so funny! And Bree looked GREAT!
I feel sad for Lynette and her delinquent boys :(

  16. DH Fan says:

I heard the rest of the series will be based on the new “present” five years from now. I bet they are doing it to shake up their story lines. Maybe they are going to have Gabby be the new Lynette. I can’t imagine Gabby looking that haggered all of the time. If Mike isn’t married to Susan then I hope he lives across the street to be close to Maynard (ack).

  17. AndrewsSpeedo says:

The series is NOT flashing forward five years next season (the final scene is labeled 5 years LATER, not “present day.”). Sheesh, get a grip, people. It’s just a storytelling device. Now that you know Mike is gone in 5 years, for example, they have 5 seasons to dispose of him.

  18. Danielle says:

I’m not worried about the five year outlook. How can that be true? They aren’t even wearing cute clothes??!! Ewwgh!

What a TENSE episode; that is so creative about Katherine’s ex-husband being a cop and not being able to use the help of the police.

I just have one problem…Katherine’s adoptive daughter was too old when adopted to not remember anything about the Romanian orphanage. :-D

  19. shar2688 says:

Why didn’t they make Maynard his middle name? That is what people usually do when a name is as bad as that one. Hated the 5 years flash forward. Hopefully it is a dream. Mike has to stay and gaby can not be white trash. Edie makes for a good story line as well. I have no idea what the writters are thinking - guess we all have to wait! As for the rest of the finale - it totally rocked. I couldn’t walk away for a minute, I was glued!

  20. Betsy says:

Mike might be died. Car accident? Mugging gone wrong? Heart attack? I don’t think they are divorced.

Loved the story last night. Orsen/Bree…. wonderful! And it could be that in 5 years Edie could have returned and isn’t as invisible to the girls since Orsen was honest with Bree.

The Lynette getting arrested and then the doc on the phone for the confession and then Kayla going away…. wonderful story. I know the twins were a handful in the past, but I wonder if they didn’t pick up anything from Kayla over the next 5 years to help them become the deliquents.

When I saw Gabby in those clothes at the end, WOW! I thought, did she lose all their $ again. lol But the girls was a surprise!

  21. LOST says:

looks like the producers of DH wanted to borrow a page out of the LOST handbook…well, they’re on the same network so it’s possible…

  22. jenny says:

I was really disappointed with the Katherine
storyline. I just started crying when I watched
the flash back. I just couldnt imagine replacing
my child. I felt like the man did. It was horrible!
Other than that storyline I loved it. I think the
5 year thingy looks really interesting and it definitely keeps you wanting more!

  23. Donna says:

I loved the episode last night. I had figured out some of Katherine’s secret, I knew from the beginning Dylan was adopted and not her daughter. I loved how the girls all pulled together for Katherine. Loved the flash ahead and fill either the show will go on for 5 years or if they had to cancel the show or delete characters this gives the writers the chance to do and also 5 years to explain the future. Can’t see Gabby wearing trashy clothes, however if you have twins that are a handful she might not have the time to look so beautiful as she did before. Great idea of Bree and her son working together. Let’s just wait and see what happens to Mike. I felt some of the stuff they were showing about Kayla was getting to be very disturbing and she needed to go. In today’s world kids falsely accusing parents and step parents of abuse is just wrong and I feel the show may have pushed the limit with this one, glad they showed the dad catching her with the doctor on the phone. We will just have to wait until next season to see where it begins.

  24. joan says:

Okay, did not care for Mike being gone in 5 years and that man she kissed sure looked like Adam??? Mike was on a radio show in Chicago on Friday and stated he does not know his future with the show, waiting on Marc Cherry to decide. Edie is gone for now….Mike’s fate is in the works. Marc Cherry…..KEEP MIKE. 5 years later, we can see many things happen, but keep Mike and Susan–they are good together! Nice job with the Lynette/Tom/Kayla story line. Overall, great episode, but that 5 year thing was odd.

  25. Brad says:

if the show was cut to only 5 minutes long, the only part i would really have wanted to keeo was Tom’s speech about marriage! Haha i was crying my eyes out. that is TRUE love…

He deserves an award for that. it was a really great dramatic moment.

And i love how Mark Cherry doesnt want people crying for long, so he has Lynette jump in and yell ANSWER HIM! haha i love it.

when DH is all over foor good, im going to cry so bad. i just want to meet all of those powefull woment.

  26. freddiejaye says:

I’ve heard that Marc Cherry plans to finish DH in the next couple of years, so it’s likely there won’t be “five more seasons” ahead.

But here’s a thought: the flash-forward *could* be a taste of the *final* season…not an introduction to the very next one. Over the next couple of years, we’ll see just how Gabrielle becomes frumpy; the events leading up to Mike’s disappearance; the changes the Scavo boys go through as they become delinquents; and so on.

Kind of like jumping ahead from Chapter 20 to steal a quick look at Chapter 40, then backtracking to Chapter 21 and proceeding in sequence to the end.

  27. Hank says:

Was Susan’s lover in the future Edie’s nephew, Austin ? Also what ever happened to Zach/Dana ?

  28. Lawrence says:

just to let you know the actor who played Susan’s new man in the “Five Years Later” part
is *Gale Harold *(Brian Kinney from Queer as Folk)

here is the news, he is joining the cast of Desperate Housewives Season 4

  29. Lawrence says:

    ooops, i meant season 5

  30. Doug says:

I think the Five Year Later is all Edie’s dream. She wasn’t in the episode and it would make sense that she would want negative things to happen to Gabriel and Susan especially. Edie would love to have Mike back and so it was a nice teaser but as with most of DH things to not appear always as they seem to be. It was a great way to get people talking and I wouldn’t be surprised if they keep teasing us for a little while and then reveal that it was always Edie’s dream.

  31. Julie says:

There are definitely some mixed feelings here. I’m still not completely sure how I feel about the whole thing. I can tell you one thing though….I can’t wait until season 5!!

  32. Beate Geibel says:

Since the incredible Gale Harold is on DH now, a very good reason for me to watch this show again, as I became bored with it during this season.

Nathan Fillion AND Gale Harold in one show - what more can you ask for…

So looking forward to the new season now…

  33. Barbara says:

    BRING MIKE BAAAAACK!!!!!!!!!!!

  34. Lillie Martin says:

That was a wierd ending! The show should have ended BEFORE the 5 year leap forward. That totally made for a stupid ending. Almost makes me wonder if there will be a next season ???????
